Agent networks, threaded through your systems.
BackThread is a hosted API platform for building networks of AI agents that reason with your data, follow your rules, and queue actions your own systems execute. Your infrastructure stays yours. We never connect to it directly.
Currently available to US-based teams, ages 18+.
Platform
Your systems do the work. Agents decide what work to do.
With BackThread, you define your agents, declare the capabilities they may use, and connect your own databases, document stores, and internal tools. Agents read your context, reason over it, and queue typed actions. Then your services consume the queue and execute on your own terms. Agent code never runs inside your environment, and BackThread never connects to your databases or reads your files directly.
One call, one turn
Message any agent through a single endpoint. A turn can be a user conversation, a system trigger, or a scheduled nudge; the contract is identical every time.
Actions your systems execute
Agents queue typed, schema-checked actions. Your services consume the queue, do the work, and report results back. You keep full control of every side effect.
Your data stays where it lives
SQL databases and document corpora are served by a lightweight connector you run inside your network. The platform asks and your side answers: outbound-only, with no inbound connections and no shared credentials.
Data access without the pipeline
Point BackThread at a SQL database or a folder of documents and your agents can draw on it. No retrieval pipeline to build, no embeddings to manage, no sync jobs to babysit. Declare it once and the platform handles how agents query it.
Scoped access, delegated keys
You decide what each agent can see and do in every context it works in, and can change it at any time. Delegated API keys are strict subsets of their parent, and revocation cascades down the chain.
Live, structured state
Give agents structured surfaces they can read and, where you allow it, edit, with every constraint you declare enforced end to end, on their side and yours.
How it works
Three moves from zero to a live integration.
Declare
Define your agents and declare what they may use: actions your systems will execute, context they should know, data sources they can draw on, and tools they can call while reasoning.
Connect
Run a lightweight connector inside your network. It serves the platform's data requests against your databases, documents, and services. It is outbound-only, so nothing ever connects in.
Run
Message an agent with one API call. It reasons with your context and queues typed actions; your systems consume the queue and execute the work on your own schedule and terms.
Pricing
Usage-based, prepaid, no surprises.
BackThread meters usage through prepaid tokens: you purchase a balance up front, and token costs vary with the resources and services your agents actually use.
Prepaid usage
For teams building their first integration.
- Buy tokens up front, spend as you go
- Token costs scale with the resources your agents use
- Access to the full platform capability set
Custom terms
For organizations running agent networks in production.
- Terms shaped around your usage profile
- Built for higher-volume workloads
- Same platform, same data guarantees
Rates will be published at launch. For early-access pricing, contact support@backthread.ai. Consumed tokens are non-refundable; unused token balances are refundable on request within 30 days of purchase. The full policy is in our Terms of Service.
The fine print
Straight answers, up front.
[a] Billing
BackThread is prepaid and usage-based. You purchase tokens in advance, and token costs vary with the resources and services your agents use. Pricing changes are posted on the website before they take effect.
Full terms →[b] Refunds
Consumed tokens are non-refundable. Unused token balances are refundable on request within 30 days of purchase, at our discretion, issued to the original payment method.
Full terms →[c] Your data
We never train AI models on your content. The platform is designed to work with deidentified data only, and we use only aggregated, de-identified usage metrics to operate, secure, and improve it.
Full terms →[d] Beta status
The platform is currently offered as a beta service for trial and evaluation while we open early access. Beta features may change as the platform matures.
